Sonic Matter festival: concert by Samuel Toro Pérez – Electric Guitar
“Red light filtered by a house plant flickers behind an overlaid pair of animated lines. A trace of smoke from a cigarette seems to hum with static. In Marina Rosenfeld’s WHITE LINES (2003), a trio of video loops shot on Pixelvision or Super8 in late 1990s Los Angeles are both stage and score for a performance of experimental music. Using hand-drawn animation, moving image, sound and instructions for performance, WHITE LINES makes a case for music as a site of collective sociality. For SONIC MATTER’s Swiss premiere, guitarist Samuel Toro Pérez leads an audience through his own reading of Rosenfeld’s speculative work. “
